It is nice to see that facebook are now advising us of upcoming changes, a simple try before you buy policy so to speak, what it does it gives us a chance to look, learn and then use, you are able for a few weeks to change from timeline to business page and back again, and then on the 31st March it will change.
Therefore you can start to build and make changes to your business timeline prior to it going live, by changing back and forth.
There are really only a handful of changes and like everything soon we will forget how the old facebook layout looked and worked.
Mostly people work and read from the WALL, so you still have to make sure your posts are interesting, interactive, positive and informative and above all social, remember social media is about “conversations” not dictations.
So the changes:-
1. The photo/profile photo - the smaller photo is what will be your wall photo so make that your logo, the main big photo should be bright, should be informative and should include as much as you can about your business that is acceptable under the terms and conditions and this means....that the rules are as they are for the personal timelines, being no web add, no email , no phone numbers, no like us here, no competitions, no share or any link, they want you to be creative about your business without being direct.google ...examples of timeline profile photos for business.. I viewed about 20 of them on www.mashable.com Erin from Dawon Documents and Carolyn from Picardi Press and I were discussing that we feel that maybe the rules will change for the profile photos if enough business dislike that they cannot use the profile photo as a form of at least marketing the very basics of the business including a web, email and phone numberIt is not that hard to do it but for a very small price, contact Erin Dawson of Dawson Documents at erin@dawsondocuments.com.au
and she will have your profile photos changed. This is important to make it right, as it will be what people notice most about your pages.
IMPORTANT: -you are not permitted to use the cover photo to feature a deal or competition these must be on third party apps.
2. The Timeline – you can change the date of your posts therefore creating a history of your business and making your page appear in chronological order, so if you won an award in 3rd November 2011 you can enter your post as of THAT date.
3. How people see your page – Users will see posts or interactions on the page from their friends, alongside posts from the page. This means they won’t see all of the conversations from others. There is an upside and downside to this. The downside is that unless users choose to click on “Recent posts by others”, they won’t see the entire conversation that is going on, which is often what, creates more conversation and engagement.
4. Pin a posts – I just pinned my old facebook logo for seven days, this pinning means that my particular post, event, photos, award, status or whatever I have pinned will remain at the TOP of MY page for 7 days. It is a great way to make sure the one thing you want prominent is the first post readers will see on your page. It is simple you click the pencil in the upper right hand corner of the post and click on pin on top.
5. Landing tabs/ Welcome pages – Are no longer going to be your welcome page or landing page. So make sure that photo at the top, the big one says it all…. Therefore use PIN my post to say what your welcome page used to.
6. Admin panel changes – The new admin panel is more user friendly and appears at the top. You can see new interactions and new fans much more easily and you can hide it off your wall.
7. Messaging – Finally we can message as if we are a business, previously all messaging came from you the individual, brands and businesses are now able to be the message sender.
8. Milestone - this will appear in the status, photo, post section, and I LOVE IT… when using it you MUST include a photo and it will appear larger than your normal story… it can be to celebrate an award, a opening, something really positive in your story, you upload a milestone much like you would have done for a event.
Apart from that not much has changed.
It isn’t as daunting as we think and once we get used to seeing the new layout it wont be an issue.

this is a great video, but I think you need to have a little bit of a understanding about timeline to understand it quickly.
REMEMBER though mostly FACEBOOK is about the wall, most people don’t go to your page, they read from the wall… so make your posts interesting.
This is a article I wrote recently entitled
How to keep your fans ON your page… the same rules apply to timeline business pages
ENJOY the read.
